Rinnosuke Morichika: Voice 002
Ah.

It appears that one of my...hypotheses concerning shikigami of the outside world--that is, computers has been...proven false.

You see, while the abilities of a shi--of a computer are numerous and varied, it doesn't appear that movement may be counted among them.

How disappointing.

It seems that any investigation into the outside world--into Crucen will have to be done directly.

How disappointing, indeed.

I'm that I currently reside in "Este".

But, that's not to say that you won't be able to provide assistance. You have, after all, acclimated to this new environment, at least to a much further extent than I have.

For example--what is a "train"? And is the distance between Sur and Este significant?

sorry for the delay V.V
Este, huh...

Uh...well...a train is...how to explain...A train is a long chain of metal cars, that can carry passengers or goods. All the cars are attached to an engine and the engine makes it move. And it's the only way I know of to get from Sur to Este, unfortunately. The distance is...pretty significant, yeah.

Re: sorry for the delay V.V
Significant? So, traveling on foot between Este and Sur is out of the question...unfortunate.

Only now does the chief advantage of flight rear its ugly head--

I'm afraid I don't know what an "engine" is, either--but you say that this item is a chief element in the area of transportation?

[OOC: Drat, I missed the word "afraid" between "I'm" and "that". I'm an idiot.]

Re: sorry for the delay V.V
Yeah.

Yeah, it is. Engines make the vehicles they have here run.

[Private to Rinnosuke]
Though...flight might be an option. If I had a contract.

Re: sorry for the delay V.V
I see.

These engines, then--what sort of identifying marks do they have? I'd like to be able to recognize one by sight, if only to satisfy myself.

[Private to Chrono]
A contract...that's territory I'm a bit more comfortable in. You're speaking of a contract with a deity or a powerful magician, correct?
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on July 9th, 2009 01:56 am (UTC)
Re: sorry for the delay V.V
You most likely wouldn't see them- they'd be inside the vehicle. Unless you saw one in a junkyard or something, in which case, they're metal and fairly big, and shaped sort of squarish, with metal cylinders on the side.

[Private to Rinnosuke]
Sort of...only I'm none of the above. I'm a...a demon, for lack of better words. And the contract....is rather involved. Moreso than you're probably used to.

Re: sorry for the delay V.V
Interesting. If the engine is found inside the vehicle, how does it pull the vehicle along?

[Private to Chrono]
Hmm. I really haven't encountered many demons, excepting the odd one during that...brief misunderstanding with Makai.

[pause]

...I don't suppose that term means anything to you?

[pause]

Involved or not, please, do tell me more about this contract. You've rather piqued my curiosity, I'm afraid.
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on July 9th, 2009 11:25 pm (UTC)
Oh dear, the blind are leading the blind here...
Uh, well, it doesn't pull the vehicle...more like...engines run on oil. The engine burns oil to produce energy, and that energy is what runs the vehicle.

[Private to Rinnosuke]
Makai...Aside from featuring prominently in some rather interesting folklore I once heard? No, I'm afraid not.

[Pause]

Make yourself comfortable, then. It's kind of a long story.

Demons where I'm from rely on an energy known as Astral, which collects primarily in their horns. I...mine were torn off in a fight, and without horns, a demon must find a new source of Astral, or that demon will die. And the substance most easily converted to Astral is human life energy.

A woman named Mary formed a contract with me immediately after that battle, letting me convert her life energy to Astral to heal my wounds. It killed her, and I sealed myself in a form that was basically human to conserve my own remaining Astral.

So when you make a contract with me, you gain possession of the seal. And when you open it, however long the seal remains open, that amount of time is subtracted from your lifespan.

Re: Oh dear, the blind are leading the blind here...
[Private to Chrono]
[hesitant, and a bit embarrassed]

O-oh.

You're...you were right. That is...a bit more involved than I'm used to.

I apologize for bringing up what must be a painful subject for you.
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on July 10th, 2009 01:45 am (UTC)
[Private to Rinnosuke]

It's fine. You did ask, and it's hard to explain the details of the contract without bringing her into it. It was...a long time ago.
