Rinnosuke Morichika: Voice 001
[The voice, though wavering slightly in the beginning, manages to keep a level of professionalism about it.]

I suppose that with my predilection for items from the outside world, this was an eventuality.

I'm quite amazed, however, at how clear-headed the local authorities seem to be concerning my arrival. Apparently, during my loss of consciousness, I was seen fit to be provided a place of residence, a small room--

[The voice becomes considerably more animated.]

More importantly, it seems that I have been entrusted with my own personal shikigami. It's much smaller than the shikigami I've gathered in the past, and it seems to exhibit characteristics reminiscent of the "cell-phone"--but nevertheless, its nature is unmistakable. It's a shikigami.

[The voice calms, somewhat.]

I really am pleased with this turn of events, but now that I finally have in my hands an active shikigami from the outside world...I can't possibly imagine how I should proceed.
Judith: lethargic;; you can't understandkrityan_tease on June 16th, 2009 04:05 pm (UTC)
... Shikigami? You mean these communication things?

I'd like to know where you're from, if you don't mind. Or if this place bears any resemblance to your "original" world at all.
Rinnosuke Morichika: contemplativehumbleshopkeep on June 16th, 2009 09:11 pm (UTC)
Resemblance? Ah, well, that is--no. No, not at all.

Far be it from me to cast a disparaging light on Gensoukyou as a whole, but the development of purely mechanical technology seems to have been stalled (with few exceptions) since the establishment of the Border, in...

[The voice pauses, then begins mumbling numbers. This continues for a little time.]

I'm very sorry. I...don't seem to have my books with me at the moment. I believe the creation of the Hakurei Barrier occurred sometime during the first half of the...Meiji...period? Meiji period? Does that sound as if it might be correct?
Judith: serious;; time for businesskrityan_tease on June 16th, 2009 10:00 pm (UTC)
... Well, I can safely say that I didn't understand a large bit of that. But you've given me some food for thought!
Rinnosuke Morichika: sheepishhumbleshopkeep on June 17th, 2009 01:28 am (UTC)
...I apologize. These recent transpirations have left me...excitable.

In addition, I was...rather distracted during the impromptu orientation, and, well...

To put it bluntly, I'm afraid that I totally failed to absorb any of the information afforded me, excepting the revelation that this would be mine.

I'm already quite embarrassed, so I would prefer not to beg some errant passerby for exposition--

Though I suppose that's what I'm doing at this very moment.
Judith: happy;; watch her flykrityan_tease on June 17th, 2009 03:17 am (UTC)
Well, of course this is all exciting! A brand new world, with so many things to explore...

And you didn't miss much. Even though people have supposedly been here for weeks, the people in charge still seem to be on square one~

And maybe one of the natives could help you? I'd love to, but I'm just as clueless as you are.
Rinnosuke Morichika: perturbedhumbleshopkeep on June 17th, 2009 11:38 pm (UTC)
Hm, so our situations are identical?

How very strange. I had considered my arrival a direct consequence of my own negligence, but...

'For weeks'? Has there been a significant number of appearances similar to ours?
Judith: lethargic;; you can't understandkrityan_tease on June 17th, 2009 11:46 pm (UTC)
Apparently they are. According to several shelter-mates of mine, people have been popping up here for roughly two months. It's a little disconcerting, but nothing that people haven't been able to handle, apparently.

I'd ask more people around here, it seems that I'm just as fresh as you are to all of this.
Rinnosuke Morichika: perturbedhumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 12:15 am (UTC)
[The voice is very obviously alarmed.]

Two--two mon--

Even allowing for a low disappearance rate--let's say, perhaps, one per week--surely there should have been--some alarm, some sort of panic? Reimu didn't mention anything to suggest--but perhaps--

That is to say, I do live a rather solitary lifestyle, but--

Two months? You're sure of this?

Don't tell me--that damnable publication actually--
Judith: serious;; time for businesskrityan_tease on June 18th, 2009 12:24 am (UTC)
We're all from different parts of the... "universe", as someone else stated. If the disppearance rate is low even on our own worlds, what happens when it's widespread?

None of us don't know why we got here, or why were were chosen to come here, if that. It's all very unclear.

But yes, it'll be roughly two months soon enough.
Rinnosuke Morichikahumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 12:46 am (UTC)
[The voice is normally paced, but there's a feeling as if the person speaking is only barely managing to rein himself in.]

...This may seem to you a rather odd question, but...are you, perhaps...not from Gensoukyou?
Judith: sad;; wish for homekrityan_tease on June 18th, 2009 12:52 am (UTC)
I'm from a world called Terca Lumires. I've never heard of Gensoukyou in my life.
Rinnosuke Morichikahumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 06:17 am (UTC)
...I see.

I see. Likewise, I'm afraid that I've never heard of your...world, either. Tell me, has it been isolated from the outside world long?

[ooc: For such a clever guy, Rinnosuke's awfully thick, huh.]
Judith: smirk;; i know i'm better than youkrityan_tease on June 19th, 2009 02:56 am (UTC)
... Outside world?

Heh, we're lucky if we even get to go to other continents~
Rinnosuke Morichika: perturbedhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 03:18 am (UTC)

I, er...

That is, uh...

You wouldn't happen to have been speaking literally when you used the term 'world', would you?
Judith: curious;; ohkrityan_tease on June 19th, 2009 03:33 am (UTC)
Well, of course I was speaking literally, silly~!

[And there is laughter heard.]

But in all seriousness, Terca Lumires is rather small, and I've been all over it. So you could say that I know my world, but most of the people inhabiting it don't. They just go by word of mouth on how other things are.
Rinnosuke Morichika: perturbedhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 03:46 am (UTC)
'All over it'?

....Er, in your travels...you didn't happen to notice any...inaccessible areas, perhaps? Or areas that seemed...'sealed off', so to speak, by some sort of...'barrier'?

[Rinnosuke's voice is rather weak.]
Judith: lethargic;; you can't understandkrityan_tease on June 19th, 2009 03:59 am (UTC)
Well, if there were barriers at one point, we were able to cross them after meeting certain specifications. There's the barrier blastia that protect the cities, of course, but I don't think that that's what you're going for.

Maybe you should get some rest? You seem pretty washed out.
Rinnosuke Morichika: srs businesshumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 05:06 am (UTC)

I...apologize. It seems that a basic assumption which I have been unwittingly depending upon throughout this entire conversation has proven to be incorrect.

You must understand, the adjustment of one's worldview is not typically a gentle occurrence.
[794602] Chrono: red eyesthecrookedhorn on June 16th, 2009 07:55 pm (UTC)
I uh...don't think it's a shikigami. Yours might be different from the legends I've heard in my world, but still...I don't claim to be an expert, but I'm pretty sure that would require these things to be alive. Which, they're not...they're just little computers, really.
Rinnosuke Morichikahumbleshopkeep on June 17th, 2009 02:14 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
I'll concede that these computers are conceptually different in that, instead of a spirit changed into a tool via the creation of a pattern, a computer seems to be a tool changed into a spirit via, er...

[A pause.]

Er, if you'll pardon a brief deviation from the subject at hand--did you just say 'my world'?
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 17th, 2009 10:42 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
Yeah, I did. This place we're in is called Crucen, and unless I miss my guess you're not from around here, are you?
Rinnosuke Morichika: contemplativehumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 06:55 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice
Ah, well, I'm afraid that's a rather complicated question. No, no, I'm not, though in terms of distance, I...

...'Crucen', hm? That...doesn't sound as if it's of Japanese origin...
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 18th, 2009 07:44 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice
As far as anyone can tell? No, it's not. This place isn't much like Earth at all.
Rinnosuke Morichika: perturbedhumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 08:41 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice

That's unexpected.
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 18th, 2009 09:00 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice
Yeah, it is, huh? Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but...

[he clears his throat]
On the bright side, the government has given us shelter and a little money. So it could definitely be way worse.
Rinnosuke Morichika: contemplativehumbleshopkeep on June 18th, 2009 10:00 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice

Money? Are you certain? I don't believe that I was given any...

[Rinnosuke's voice fades out, as if he's moved away from the PORTable. There's a faint sound of someone moving around, still talking.]

...ly items I received were the shikigami and this...

..."electronic purse"? How does an object this small store funds? I can't conceive of any...or, perhaps, it's the currency itself that's small?

[ooc: I tried to find a "generic" name for the sort of technology a Node Card would be. Ah, Rinnosuke...in this world of computers and electronic cash, a power like yours is kind of useless, isn't it?]
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 18th, 2009 10:15 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice
I'm not too sure how it works, but the currency (Nodes) is stored on that electronic purse, which is called a Nodecard. [laughs] It's a little much to get used to when you're used to paper money and coins.

[ooc: Mind if I ask what his power is, exactly? ...And on another note, Chrono kinda wants to adopt Rinnosuke now.]
Rinnosuke Morichika: foul moodhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 12:41 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
Neither paper nor coins--

In what form does the currency circulate, then?

[ooc: He's got the power to know the name and purpose of an item. However, he doesn't automatically know how to use an item, and what he does automatically know can be awfully misleading to him.]
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 19th, 2009 02:54 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
...I'm not sure, exactly. But if it can be stored on the Nodecards, it might be electronic.
Rinnosuke Morichika: expositionhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 03:43 am (UTC)
Re: Voice

[Though flustered, Rinnosuke is beginning to catch his second wind!]

So, currency made 'electronic' is significantly diminished in size...and thus may be stored inside a 'Node Card'!
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 19th, 2009 04:11 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
Well, I'd assume that's the basic principle, yeah. I'm not...I've only been here a few months though, so I'm not sure myself exactly how it works.

You'd probably be better off asking somebody who's from here originally to find out for sure.
Rinnosuke Morichika: sheepishhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 05:16 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
I understand.

At the very least, I must thank you for alerting me to the nature of these Node Cards. Hunger, after all, is an abstract that does not discriminate between species, and only now--with your assistance--do I realize that I possess the means to sate it.

Once more, I thank you.
[794602] Chronothecrookedhorn on June 19th, 2009 10:20 am (UTC)
Re: Voice
Oh, sure. No problem.

If you need anything else, just ask over the PORTable. My name's Chrono.
Rinnosuke Morichika: sheepishhumbleshopkeep on June 19th, 2009 09:26 pm (UTC)
Re: Voice
And I'm Rinnosuke Morichika. Feel free to contact me anytime.

Re: Voice
[stumbles slightly over that name; he's been to Japan, but it was only once and longer ago than he's likely to admit any time soon]

Rin...Rinnosuke Morichika. Got it. I'll remember.
